Duties & Functions of Board of Directors

Board of Directors includes the nine academic members selected according to procedure in statement (3) of the Republican Establishment Decree (210) of 2009, and are appointed with Cabinet Decree pursuant to the presentation of Prime Minister.

In order to accomplish the board's duties, the members may exercise the following responsibilities and functions:

 

1. Approving, amending and developing the standards and criteria for accrediting Higher Education institutions in light of the general policy of education.

 

2. Approving the formation of specialized committees proposed by the Secretariat-General and presented to the Chairman of CAQA to carry out any tasks required.

 

3. Approving plans and strategies necessary to achieve quality assurance in Higher Education, as well as approving the executive procedures submitted by CAQA Chairman and the Secretariat-General.

 

4. Discussing and approving the evaluation reports of the programs and outputs of Higher Education institutions.

 

5. Discussing and approving the performance reports of Higher Education institutions and the extent of their commitment to the standards.

 

6. Approving the recommendations submitted to the Minister of Higher Education related to Higher Education institutions (the three recommendations).

 

7. Approving the proposed draft bylaws, regulations, and instructions for the duties of CAQA to be submitted to the Minister to complete legal procedures.

 

8.  Approving the annual budget of CAQA.

 

9. Reviewing the formation of the advisory committees affiliated to CAQA Chairman, the accreditation committees, the evaluation and follow-up committees submitted by the Secretariat-General and the Chairman of the Council.

 

10. Approval of annual performance reports.

 

11. Conducting equivalencies for Higher Education certificates issued outside the Republic of Yemen. Members have the right to seek assistance from whomever they see fit, with specializations that are not available in CAQA members.

 

12. Recommending the accreditation of Higher Education institutions and their programs in accordance with the principles and standards.

 

13. Recommend licensing the establishment of private higher education institutions in accordance with the approved academic standards.

 

14. Recommending to the Minister of Higher Education to issue a warning to institutions of Higher Education that violate the approved principles and standards to be removed within the period specified for this purpose.
